“War Indian on Bareback” Original Painting by Shirley C. Capra – Custom Rustic Western Frame by Richard Dirk 33x46
This original painting by Shirley C. Capra, titled War Indian on Bareback, shows a rider charging bareback through a band of wild horses, and the movement in it is the first thing you notice from across the room. The frame was built new for it by local Big Bear woodsman and artist Richard Dirk, out of raw wood, natural lake stones, arrowheads gathered near the historic Lucky Baldwin Mine, naturally shed antlers and decorative feathers.
Previous owners say the painting once belonged to Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, who kept a lakefront estate here in Big Bear during the 1940s and 1950s. That story comes from them alone and has never been officially authenticated. It is pre-owned with wear consistent with its age, and it is ready to hang. This piece measures roughly 33 inches wide by 46 inches tall including the frame.
