Vintage 1920s "FLEXO BAND COOL CAP" Miners Hard Hat Helmet

Sale price$250.00

This antique miner's helmet is believed to have been used during the 1920s coal mining era. The Turtle Top-style safety hard hat was ideal for miners working diligently to extract coal from local US mines. This Hard-Boiled Brand Miners Helmet was made by the E.D. Bullard Company of San Francisco, California after 1919. With a leather and metal bracket mounted onto the front of the helmet it was used to hold an Electric Lamp helping them to see in the darkness of the mine. E.D. Bullard was one of the first producers of protective mining hard hats. This particular Flex helmet design was based off of the “Doughboy” Helmets worn in WW1 soldiers. You will find this original 1920's helmet is made of canvas and metal and still features half a label on the inside that reads "FLEXO BAND COOL CAP" with an original serial number.

Each miner was faced extreme working conditions and was provided with what they thought to be adequate safety gear. These intense conditions and work environments caused significant wear and tear on this genuine mining equipment. The helmet features markings that narrate the story of each miner who risked their lives to extract the precious mineral and metals.

This helmet is a cool display piece, or it is ready to be use for its original purpose- mining for precious gems and stones
